New restaurant for North Mankato?

Rumor has it that the spot where the old Great Wall restaurant once resided ... behind Wells Fargo on Commerce ... will be the home of another "Mexican" restaurant. Yet another boon for Commerce on Commerce.

However it just seems so odd.

With all the activity now being generated on Commerce -- the new exercise shop, new hair salon, another restaurant/grill opening soon, the new construction of KwikTrip and recent opening of Walgreens -- that Ray's Market couldn't make it.

It looked like they just gave up. Inventory toward the end was very weak and slowly diminished so that people stopped going there. It could be they felt they were just not grocery people and feel more comfortable as landlords. They expressed as much in recent news stories.

Let's hope someone else sees the opportunity (and has the experience) to put up something more as a convenience shop rather than a full blown grocery store for the residents of North Mankato.
